Rogers Explorers spend two days on LWC campus Click on headline for full story, photo(s) By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - For the third consecutive year, the Rogers Explorers spent two days on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College to build their business and entrepreneurial skills as the region's next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs. This year's class of Rogers Explorers included 30 incoming high school freshmen that participated in a two-day program at LWC. The 30 students came from the Somerset, Ky.-based Center for Rural Development's 42-county service area. During the program, the students took part in a wide range of group activities that helped prepare them to be future leaders of their communities and also gave them a taste of college campus life. Center for Rural Development Youth Programs Coordination Lauren Hayes was very positive about this year's program. "This year's program has been wonderful," Hayes said. "You could really see a change in the students in just a couple days. They became a team and learned so much through the program and from each other." Some of the activities the students took part in included: majors classes in which students took classes in communication, science and networking; NASA video conference; guided tours of LWC's A.P. White Campus; an ice cream social; and pool activities in LWC's Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center. "The students enjoyed every aspect of the program this year," Hayes said. "The main selling point of the campus for many of the students was actually the food. Several students made comments that the food alone was enough to make them enroll as students at Lindsey Wilson College in four years." Center for Rural Development Community Liaison Emily Phillips said she was glad to be included in a program that is so important to the region. "I think it's awesome to see the impact the program has on the students in just a few short days," Phillips said. "I think it's good to see the Center for Rural Development making such an impact on the region and partnering with Lindsey Wilson College to make that possible has been a great experience for everyone involved."
