LWC tennis opens in NAIA Championships May 17, 2011

NAIA national title play is at Mobile Tennis Center, 851 Gaillard DR, Mobile, AL

COLUMBIA, KY (2011-05-10) - The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's tennis teams will play on the opening day of the NAIA National Championships next week, as the NAIA released the national tournament brackets today.The Blue Raider men face Lewis-Clark State University of Lewiston, ID, at 9amCT while the Lindsey Wilson women play Martin Methodist College of Pulaski, TN at 1pmCT on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Mobile Tennis Center, 851 Gaillard DR, Mobile, AL.



In the men's tournament, Lindsey Wilson (14-5) makes its eighth appearance at the national tournament after winning the Unaffiliated Group No. 6 Tournament. The Blue Raiders have won 12 straight matches and have outlasted a tournament field that included teams from the Mid-South Conference and Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Lindsey Wilson began the season winning just two of its first seven matches, but the Blue Raiders haven't lost since March 25, 2011.

Lewis-Clark State (10-8) received the final at-large bid after finishing runner-up in the Unaffiliated Group No. 4 Tournament -- which featured teams from the Cascade, Frontier, Midlands, Red River and Sooner athletic conferences.

The Warriors are making their 12th all-time appearance in the national tournament.

The Lindsey Wilson and Lewis-Clark State winner advances to play No. 3-seed Auburn University-Montgomery (AL) on Wednesday in the tournament's second round. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011.

In the women's draw, Lindsey Wilson (13-5) faces Martin Methodist for the second time this season. The Blue Raiders lost to the RedHawks 7-2 in Pulaski, TN, on March 25, 2011.

The Blue Raiders are making their seventh appearance at nationals following a Mid-South Conference Tournament championship. Lindsey Wilson enters the match winners of eight of its last nine matches.

Martin Methodist (15-5) earned an automatic bid after winning the Unaffiliated Group No. 2 Tournament. The tournament included teams from the Appalachian, Gulf Coast and TranSouth conferences as well as the Independents.

The RedHawks are making their first-ever appearance at the national tournament.

The Lindsey Wilson and Martin Methodist winner advances to play No. 1-seed Fresno Pacific (CA) University on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the tournament's second round. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011. Chris Wells
