Reader hopes $4,500 collected won't be spent at Walmart

Comments re article 44080 In regards to Mr Barnes moving his relief effort from Walmart parking lotSue M. Smith writes:
I just hope the $4500 that was collected will not be spent at a Walmart! -Sue M. Smith
CM has learned for sure, that $2,000 originally designated for the Columbia Walmart was given to Bob Barnes to spend anywhere else but the Columbia Walmart or any Walmart after the incident. However, we would like to note that if the Columbia Walmart is punished, in the end, it is our neighbors and friends who work there who pay for it. As they do when there is a theft at the store, as our local Walmart employees pay for it when carts are abused or the community does not help keep the store and grounds clean. (We noticed that Columbia area people do just that; they treat the property as if it were their own.) No doubt this is bad PR for the local store. Hope there is a learning lesson and all can be forgiven. -EW
