Mary Welch Miller Pickett, 83, Columbia, KY

Mrs. Pickett was a member of an old line Adair County family and a longtime member of the Columbia Baptist church.. She was a teachers aid at John Adair Elementary School and was employed at Lindsey Wilson College for many years.

Mary Welch Miller Pickett, age 83 years, of 708 Pickett AV, Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, August 3, 2009 at 3:10 A.M. at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY after several months illness.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 3:30pm at Stotts-Phelps McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY with Clergy officiating: Rev. Jerry Oakley and Dr. Ted Taylor officiating. Interment in the Orr Cemetery, near Kemp, KY. The family requests visitation after 4:00pmCT on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.



She was born November 4, 1925, the daughter of the late Otha Butler and Anna Lewis Harper Miller of Adair Co., KY.

She was a teachers aid at John Adair Elementary for several years and worked at the Student Union Building of Lindsey Wilson College for 16 years. She was a longtime member of the Columbia Baptist Church.

Mrs. Pickett was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Pickett on October 23, 1981; three brothers, Sam Miller, Don Miller and Otha Butler Miller Jr.l and one sister, Julia Russell Miller.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: Billy Pickett, Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Julia Thompson, Columbia, KY

  • Two sisters: Billie Jo Edwards and Thelma Harper Cundiff, both of Columbia, KY

  • Two grandsons: Rodney Louis Thompson and James Murrell Thompson

  • Six great grandchildren: Justin Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Linsey Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Abigail Thompson, Ally Thompson

  • One great great grandchild: Albany Paige Thompson
