Bull Run gardener claims first homegrown tomato, 2009

2009-05-04 - 1535 Bull Run RD, Columbia, KY - Photo by Barbara Armitage + CM file photo.
First Tomato of Season, when most are just transplanting: "I love to be first. I've been told that gardening isn't really a competitive sport but that hasn't stopped me. While most folks won't even consider planting until after Derby Day I was busy harvesting at Tucker's Station on Saturday May 2nd while the ponies were running. This ripe red tomato was the first off the vine for 2009," writes Barbara Armitage of Tucker's Station Farms, 1535 Bull Run Road, Columbia, KY, adding, "OK, I admit that I had help from a great friend with a greenhouse to get my tomatoes started, but this great Kentucky spring weather took it from there." She advises, "Go on out and plant something. It's a wonderful feeling to watch it grow." The photo is timedated May 3, 2009, 18:37pm."
