Douglas S. Gorton, 85, Columbia, KY (1940-2026)

Douglas Sanford Gorton of Columbia died on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at his residence. He was 85 years old.

Douglas' wishes were to be cremated. There will be no services held.


He was born December 24, 1940 in Elk Point, New York to the late Vernon and Marjorie Benton Gorton. He was a member of the Valley Oak Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He had the honor to serve his country in the United States Army and worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.

Survivors include:
  • His wife- Clara Cottler Gorton of Columbia, Kentucky
  • Three sons- Curt Gorton (Cindy) of Arkansas, Todd Gorton (Florence) of Cabool, Missouri, Clay Gorton (Eva) of Columbia, Kentucky
  • Four brothers: Rory Gorton of Roscoe, New York, Clair Gorton of Arkansas, Keith Gorton of New Mexico, Aquila Gorton of New Hampshire
  • One sister- June Tillson of Florida
  • Eleven Grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
