Veterans Banners will be dedicated on May 22

City of Columbia | Assistant to the Mayor

The City of Columbia will hold a dedication ceremony for the 2026 Veterans Banners at 10amCT on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots will welcome everyone, followed by an Invocation by Gas Superintendent Jerry Watson, then the Pledge of Allegiance, an address by Joe Hare of VFW Post #6097, and the official Dedication of Banners and Reading of the Names by Shane Gaskins & Mason Franklin.

Shane Gaskins is a long time City employee serving in the Gas and Sanitation Departments. Shane is the son of Vietnam-era veteran Phillip Gaskins. SSgt. Mason Franklin served in the US Air Force from 2017 to 2023 as an Aircraft mechanic, stationed in New Mexico, South Korea, and Alaska.
