MCHS student Elyda Hicks wins Congressional Art Competition From Austin Hacker Washington, DC - On May 12, 2026, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) proudly announces Elyda Hicks of Metcalfe County High School as the winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Kentucky's 1st Congressional District. Her drawing, titled "The Great Comforter," will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol alongside other artists from across the United States. "The incredible creativity, talent, and hard work of high school artists from across Kentucky's 1st Congressional District were on full display in this year's competition. With more than 50 original pieces submitted by students from high schools across the district, selecting this year's top artwork was more difficult than ever. I want to extend my congratulations to Elyda, Bailey, and Kendall for being selected as this year's winners. This exceptional art will be proudly displayed in the U.S. Capitol and in my Tompkinsville and Washington offices," said Congressman Comer. Bailey Bayne, a student at Christian County High School, earned second place with her piece titled "Around the Bend." Her artwork will be prominently displayed in Congressman Comer's Washington, D.C. office. Kendall Wright, a student at Monroe County High School, earned third place for her piece titled "What the Water Remembers."
