J.B. Root, 83, Taylor County, KY J.B. Root of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late Joshua Brandon Root and Ora Lee Barber Root, was born on Tuesday, December 1, 1942 in Olive Hill, Kentucky and departed this life on Friday, April 3, 2026 at his home. He was 83 years, 4 months, and 2 days of age. He was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church in Campbellsville, where he faithfully served as a member of the choir. His life was deeply rooted in music and ministry, having dedicated over 60 years as a gospel singer, sharing his faith through song with numerous groups and touching countless lives along the way. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force for over five years, receiving an honorable discharge. He was also retired from General Electric in Louisville, after 30 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his wife: Reva Root of Campbellsville, having united in marriage on September 25, 2004. Other survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law: Josh Root and Maggie of Russell Springs, and Stuart Schultz; a daughter and son-in-law: Bridget Goldsmith and James of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will cherish his memory. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. The funeral service for J.B. Root will be conducted at 11amCT (12 Noon, Eastern Time) Friday, April 10, 2026 at the First Methodist Church in Campbellsville with burial to follow in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is requested after 9 Central Time, (10 Eastern Time) Friday at the church until time of the funeral service. Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the First Methodist Church of Campbellsville which can be made at the funeral home or at the church.
