Janette Hurt Grubbs, 93, Cumberland Co., KY (1932-2026)

Janette Hurt Grubbs died March 22, 2026, in Glasgow, Kentucky. She was 93 years old.

Janette was born June 15, 1932, to Maurice and Hazel Thurman Hurt and grew up in the Grider community of Cumberland County. She lived her adult life in Waterview and cherished her memberships in the Marrowbone United Presbyterian Church and, later, the First Christian Church in Burkesville.

She was an excellent cook and seamstress, a faithful homemaker and gardener, and in her later years, a fierce UK Wildcat fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and World War II veteran, James Edward Grubbs; her brother, Bobby Keith Hurt and sister-in-law, Ruby Grace Hurt; and her parents-in-law, Allen and Nell Davis Grubbs.

She is survived by her children: Elaine G. Webb (Jack) of Waterview, Gary Grubbs (Pam) of Glasgow, Morris Allen Grubbs (Anissa) of Lexington; her grandchildren, Kristin Grubbs of Glasgow and Thomas Grubbs (Samantha) of Glasgow; her great-grandson, Norris Grubbs, of Glasgow; and her nephew, Randall Hurt (Judy) of Burkesville. She also embraced as family her devoted personal caretakers: Diane Carter, Glenda Leveridge, and Carolyn Garmon.

The family is grateful for the loving care she received during her stays at Cumberland County Hospital, Cumberland Valley Manor Rehabilitation Center, and NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.

The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Patton and Pastor Terry Shelley officiating. Burial will be in the Grider Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. C.S.T. Thursday, March 26, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Grider Memorial Cemetery at P.O. Box 629, or 170 Fudge Hill, Burkesville, Kentucky 42717.

Norris-New Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences and service details at www.norris-new.com.
