WHVE's Larry ''Lar On The Air'' Smith receives prestigious AP award By Linda Waggener linda@ColumbiaMagazine.com The Associated Press Award for outstanding news reporting was presented to Larry Smith on April 11th at the Radisson Hotel in Lexington. Larry is the News and Program Director for WHVE Radio "92.7 The Wave", which serves Adair and Russell Counties with an adult contemporary music format. He was recognized for dedication to local news coverage, news writing, stayingon top of the news and professionalism in programing. As announcer, writer, and news and program director, he has worked inradio broadcasting in this region for 27 years on the air. "I have to give credit to those mentors I've worked with like Tommy Kerr at WTCO in Campbellsville, anawsome person who gave me such great advice, my first job and lectured meoften. Skip Essick, WHAS in Louisville, took the time every day to come in andwork with me and coach me. He gives much praise to "two great owners Mike Harris and AlanReed" who have given him the leadership opportunity to move WHVE from fourth in the market to first. Larry says, "Thanks to all the listeners who have voted me their favrorite radio guyin this market for the past 27 years. I try to make every day like the first day Istarted in radio.
