Kentucky Color: Three-Quarter Moon By Billy Joe Fudge Thursday afternoon I found myself completely enamored by the intensity of blue, white and gray in the eastern heavens over the Great Wooded South! The scene wrapped its comforting arms around me while a warm, winter sun slowly descended toward the western horizon. Late Thursday, the Moon was three-quarters of the way to becoming a completely Full Moon near 5:30amCT, next Tuesday morning! According to the Farmer's Almanac, a March Full Moon was referred to by the Pioneers and Native Americans as the Worm Moon. This signified the return of earthworms from the thawing ground and beetle larvae from thawing tree bark as the Spring thaw began. Coincidentally, there will be a total Lunar Eclipse of this year's Worm Moon! It will be at its reddest from 5:00 to 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. There will not be another total lunar eclipse of a Worm Moon until March of 2044 according to AI. This story was posted on 2026-02-28 14:38:49
