Terry Knifley donates map carried in Desert Storm A meaningful piece of military history was shared with the Adair County Genealogical Society at the recent Show-and-Tell Social when local veteran Terry Knifley donated a map he carried during Operation Desert Storm. Knifley explained that he had recently come across the map unexpectedly while going through a gun case containing hunting equipment. "I wasn't going to bring anything," he said. "I was trying to get some of my hunting equipment out, and I came across this in the gun case. I thought I'd bring it to show y'all." "This is where we went to Desert Storm in '91," Knifley said. The map documents the areas where Knifley served during the 1991 Gulf War. He was a member of the 623rd Field Artillery Unit. According to Knifley, the unit landed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where they unloaded equipment from the ship Matilda before moving north into Iraq. The presentation was part of the Genealogical Society's annual Show-and-Tell where members and guests are invited to bring items of interest to share, whether historical, family-related, or personally meaningful. Members are also invited to bring a dish for the potluck after the program. Everyone agreed that the stars of the dinner in December were Lila Ford's Pecan Pie Bark and Jane Grant's White Fudge. The Adair County Genealogy & History Research Center is located at 307 Greensburg Street in Columbia. Meetings are open to the public.
