Homeplace needs YOUR Help Homeplace urgently needs more financial support from individuals and businesses. You can help ensure Homeplace remains a vital space in our community for the generations to come by becoming a member today. From Lyn Stanton, Program Director Homeplace on Green River Dear Friends, Homeplace on Green River is many things to many people. For some who still remember, it's the old Hall Family Farm; for others, it's a place to come take fall family photos. Others may know us just for our Spring Plow Day and Fall Heritage Festivals. Still others know us from our kids' programs like Camp ROAM or school field trips. And for dozens of couples, it's the place where they said "I do" to the love of their lives and where their family's story began. Many folks know of Homeplace, but most don't know how Homeplace came to be, or how we are managed. When the last family to own this land decided the time had come to sell, they believed it was important for all 227 acres to be preserved and protected. They wanted to be certain that this fertile land, which has nourished countless bodies with its harvest for decades, and the buildings and barns that have stood for generations, would not be turned into a housing development or industrial park. So, through the efforts of a visionary group of volunteers who formed the first Board of Directors, aided by the Nature Conservancy and the Kentucky State Senate, Homeplace on Green River was reborn in 2001. Now a nonprofit organization here to serve our community, we are charged with the awesome task of caring for this beautiful land. Of keeping a historic home built in 1802, a gorgeous hay barn built in the 1860s, an iconic tobacco barn from the 1940s, and other structures from falling victim to the ravages of entropy and time. We are stewards of the cropland, preserving it and maintaining the soil's vitality in an age when America is losing farmland at an alarming rate, and often to foreign interests. Right now in our great nation, roughly 46 million acres of farmland are owned by companies from other nations. That's roughly the combined area of Kentucky and Tennessee. But NOT Homeplace. At Homeplace, we are so proud to protect each of our 227 historic acres and to produce quality, family-friendly events and programs for you, our incredible community, to enjoy. But the fact is, we can't do any of it without your help. Many people believe we are funded by the county, city, or state, but the truth is, we are an independent nonprofit. The fact is, our events don't bring in much revenue; they are more of a service to the community, a labor of love. In reality, the bulk of our operating budget comes from rentals and, most importantly, donations from generous businesses and community members. Right now, the unfortunate fact is, Homeplace is in trouble. The truth is, we urgently need more financial support from individuals and businesses if we are going to continue. Friends, we can't stress enough how much we need your support to help keep Homeplace moving towards our goals and pursuing our mission. We have several exciting projects in the works, including plans for music festivals, art-making sessions, additional community events, and educational opportunities. Our content is always family-friendly, fun for all ages, and celebrates our shared values of rural living, community building, and partnership. But all those dreams may come to an end without help. You can help ensure Homeplace remains a vital space in our community for the generations to come by becoming a member today. We have a wide range of memberships for individuals, families, and businesses. Memberships will NOT automatically renew, so they are worry-free, and each level comes with fantastic benefits, from event passes to advertising opportunities.
