Basketball: Indians defeat Panthers 72-58, face more Panthers

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Monday, December 1, 2025, the Adair County Indians defeated the Elizabethtown Panthers 72-58 in their season opener at home. The Indians shot the ball well against the Panthers, 59% from the floor and 43% from beyond the three point arc. The team was led in scoring by Senior newcomer Tylin George, with 26 points, followed by Sophomore John Shehan with 16, and Freshman Truk Jennings with 11.

Junior Matthew MeJean led the Indians in rebounding, with eight, followed by Shehan with six, and George with five. All in all, it was a very solid start to the season for Adair County, especially without two key players, Dawson Gilbert and Landon Blakey.

Adair County does not have long to enjoy the win though, as they are back on the court on Tuesday against the Cumberland County Panthers. The Panthers battled and overcame the Tribe last year in the second game of the season in Burkesville, snapping a 12 game winning streak for Adair County over Cumberland County going all the way back to 2012. However, both the Panthers and the Tribe are different teams than they were last season. Adair County saw a majority of the key players from last year graduate, and Cumberland County lost some 46% of their scoring from last year.

The Indians are 1-0, and that is cause for celebration. Come out and celebrate with your Indians tonight as they take on Cumberland County following the battle between the Lady Indians and Lady Panthers. The girls tip off at 5:30pmCT, followed by the boys at 7pmCT, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. One ticket grants entry to both games, and tickets can be purchased online at hometownticketing.com.
