Hazel Atwood Sallee, 88, Casey County, KY

Hazel Atwood Sallee, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at her home. She was 88.

Born on April 9, 1937, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Chester Atwood and Retha Sweden Atwood Leigh. Hazel was a member and song leader at Canaan Valley Separate Baptist Church. She was a longtime seamstress, having worked at Liberty Sportswear, Osh Gosh, and King's Department Store. Hazel enjoyed watching UK basketball, cooking, traveling, and quilting.


She is survived by her children, William "Bill" (Carolyn) Sallee and Connie Sallee; grandchildren, Kim (Josh) Wethington, Brandy (Jeremy) Carman, Caleb Sallee, Cody (Melissa) Burton, Hagan (Ashley) Scott, and Logan Scott; and great-grandchildren, Jenna, Elijah, Braxton, Emmalynn, Emersyn, and Joey. Other survivors include her brother, Don (Brenda) Atwood; sister, Ruby (Mack) Cox; special nephew, Dean Atwood; and her pet cat, Baby Lou.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two husbands, Kenneth C. Sallee and Thomas "Tom" Sroczynski; and siblings, Marvin Atwood, Earl Atwood, Dee Atwood, Shearl Atwood, Dorothy Allen, Helen Clark, Phyllis Black, and 3 infants.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. David Hicks and Bro. Richard Antle officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 on Tuesday.
