Victoria's Story: how Goodwill changed her life

Lennea Wooten, Director of Mission Integration, Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, shared a testimonial letter of how much help the business meant in her life turnaround at the Chamber of Commerce lunch.

Victoria writes, "I started at Goodwill in November of 2020, a 3-time convicted felon on parole and very little clean time. I was struggling to find employment due to my background.

"I was hired at Goodwill as a cashier. I was not aware that Goodwill was a second chance employer. I had many barriers and stipulation to fulfill with courts including classes and appointments with my parole officer. Goodwill worked with my schedule to allow me to uphold all of these stipulations.

"I was given a Career Coach to help me through this transitional period of my life. Once I reached a year plus of sobriety, I was giving the opportunity to become Peer Support Certified. Goodwill paid for me to participate in this class, as well as gave me the opportunity to complete my classes while on the clock.

"I was promoted to team lead, then eventually assistant manager. I was given opportunities many other companies would not have ever allowed me due to my record. I began to believe in myself again because Goodwill believed in me.

"I participated in the Cars to Work program which allowed me reliable transportation to and from work and assist me with building my credit. I have utilized the tuition reimbursement program, and I am pursuing a degree in Human Services. I am now a Career Coach for Goodwill Kentucky. I get the opportunity to help others with similar barriers to myself and give them opportunities they never knew were possible.

"Today, I have been employed with Goodwill for 5 years and I have a sobriety date of 5 years. This company is not only a second chance employer, but they gave me a second chance at life."
