Brockmans sharing a journey to health

By Josh Brockman

I started smoking when I was 15 years old. For nearly 30 years I smoked. Many never knew I smoked because I tried to never smoke in public or my uniform.

When I retired one year ago I decided my health was gonna take a front row seat. I quit cold turkey as they say. Today I celebrate one year free of cigarettes. I still crave them from time to time but I'm hanging on. Amy started an additional journey with me for my physical health.

My cholesterol was high, blood pressure through the roof and I was knocking on the doors of sugar issues. We started hiking more, rucking, lifting more weights and food prepping. This morning's weigh in put me at 56 lbs down.

So, today I am one year smoke free and 56 lbs lighter. I feel as good as I did in my 30s. Thankful for Amy and the friends who helped and continue to help me with my journey. Whether it was a workout or hiking, having a group that supports you is always helpful.

I will say that losing weight was easier than quitting smoking. That's a habit I wish I never started.
