Proclamation: Declaring November as National Family Literacy Month
  • WHEREAS, National Family Literacy Month is an opportunity to recognize the importance of family literacy and its powerful impact on communities across the nation; and

  • WHEREAS, 43 million adults struggle with basic literacy, numeracy, and English language skills, and without these foundational skills, parents lack the tools they need to support their children's education or reach their own workforce and economic goals; and

  • WHEREAS, family literacy, in which multiple generations from the same family engage in learning together, recognizes the critical link between adult education and child academic success; and

  • WHEREAS, families involved in family literacy programming often see children perform better in school and attend school more regularly, while parents become better equipped to partner with their child's school and develop the tools to improve their family's economic mobility; and

  • WHEREAS, National Family Literacy Month, established by the National Center for Families Learning, celebrates the families who are engaging in learning together and ensures that education is a shared value that is carried forward from generation to generation; and

  • WHEREAS, promoting family literacy strengthens communities, supports workforce readiness, and fosters a culture of lifelong learning;

  • NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pamela Hoots, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim the month of November 2025 as National Family Literacy Month and encourage all residents to support and participate in family literacy initiatives that uplift and empower learners of all ages.

GIVEN under my hand this 29th day of October, 2025. -Pamela Hoots, Mayor
