Achilles Award for Q32025 goes to Carol Perkins

By Kim Harwood, Executive Director
Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce

The Achilles Award for the third quarter of 2025 goes to Carol Perkins. Mrs. Perkins (as she is known by most of her former students) is best known for her time and energy as an educator. Mrs. Perkins was the 2003 Educator of the Year recipient, and radio personality, for years as Carol & Susan Unscripted. The show aired each Tuesday on 99.1 The Hoss. Did I mention she is also an author?

Carol Perkins wears many hats, and this makes her an ideal choice for the Achilles Award.

Carol took the lead a few years ago as the Shoebox Mission Coordinator. Metcalfe's Operation Shoebox Mission, part of the Samaritan's Purse Mission sends boxes worldwide spreading the Word of God, often to places where no missionaries are permitted to go. She has taken the mission to a new level with the help of amazing volunteers who purchase gifts for the boxes, use their sewing skills to make different craft/clothing items, and prepare the boxes to be shipped. Mrs. Perkins has put a lot of thought into the mission and comes up with clever ideas that she knows will have an impact on the children who receive a box. The arrival of the boxes is the highlight for many of these children. If you want to help with the Shoe Box Mission contact Carol Perkins through Facebook to see what you can do to help.

Carol Perkins, we appreciate all you have done and all you still do to make Metcalfe County a better place, thank you and congratulations. We are honored to recognize you as an Achilles Award recipient.

Achilles was known as the beautiful and lovable big white dog who made an appearance at almost every outdoor event in Metcalfe County. The award does not come with ribbons or money, but it acknowledges a good deed done by someone in our community.

Achilles was the loyal companion of two wonderful people, Bill & Chris Lagermann, who also give so much of their time and resources to different projects within the community.
