Travel: Sharing memories in Austin, TX By Veronica Arnold If you grew up in north Austin, as I did as a kid in the 90s... getting Amy's Ice Cream and visiting the stone cows at the arboretum was a good night. You could look out at the hill country from the elevated walk, or walk down to feed the oddly aggressive ducks and geese. I don't know how many kids and adults have played on these cows. It is art that is interactive and tactile. Art that interacts with you and has lasted for generations now. I am sure someone who cast and created the cow herd sculptures never knew it would be that much of a cultural piece. It brought me much joy to see my child sitting on those cows, playing and being imaginative while chowing down on sugary ice cream from a local business... those who grew up in the Hill Country of Austin would see that picture and it sums up many memories. I hope you too go to Texas and see the cows... even a farmer can appreciate the level of cow that everyone can interact with. Click headline for photos from Veronica's trip.
