Football: Indians fall in double OT at McCreary Central

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Friday, September 12, 2025, the Adair County Indians Football team fell 23-20 to the McCreary Central Raiders in double overtime at Norm Parsons Field in Stearns, KY. The Indians battled all night and the game remained tight all the way through. Both teams seemed to seek a record number of penalty yards and mistakes, but lucky for everyone on the field, someone actually did have to win this one.

The game was tied 14-14 at the end of regulation after a Radiers game winning field goal was blocked and a return by the Indians was blown dead. That call gave many that made the trip from Columbia to Stearns great pause, as no justification was given for why the play was blown dead.

In overtime, the Raiders drew first blood with a touchdown, but then failed to convert the PAT. The Indians punched the ball in the end zone and then likewise missed their point-after attempt, leading to a 20-20 to double overtime.

Adair County began this period with possession of the ball, but unfortunately turned the ball over, which was followed by a game-winning McCreary Central field goal.

The leader in production on the night for the Indians would by and by be senior Brody Karnes, who had 192 rushing yards along with 110 passing yards. Karnes would also have a hand in all three of Adair County's touchdowns, scoring two of them on the ground and one through the air.

No other Tribe player recorded a pass attempt on the game, but two other players carried the rock for the team on the ground. Sophomore Callum Darnell had eight carries for 41 yards, and senior Ryder Rodgers had four carries for 21 yards.

Senior Dawson Gilbert lead the team in receiving yards, with four catches for 69 yards and the lone receiving touchdown for the team.

On the defensive side of the ball, Junior Tristan Mullins lead the team with 18 tackles and co-lead the team in tackles for loss with two. Ryder Rodgers posted 15 tackles. Senior Mahlon Coblentz and Sophomore Dezmond Matthews posted 10 each to make up the four Indians defenders that posted double digit tackles on the game.

On special teams, Junior Matthew MeJean went two for three on extra points in the game.

The Indians are 1-3 on the season, and will look to get one back in the win column when they host the Glasgow Scotties (4-0) in Columbia next Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pmCT on September 19, 2025, at ACHS Indian Field, 526 Indian Dr, Columbia, KY. Tickets are $8.00, and can be purchased at hometownticketing.com.
