Bardstown Driver Licensing Office has new permanent location From Naitore Djigbenou/Allen Blair Frankfort, KY - Bardstown's Driver Licensing Regional Office has relocated to a permanent site to better serve the needs of all Kentuckians. Less than two miles from the former temporary office that opened in July 2024, the new permanent location will deliver an improved licensing process and use a line management system that helps reduce wait times. Located at 201 Guthrie Drive, Suite C, Bardstown, next to the Nelson County Justice Center, the regional office is expected to serve nearly 2,000 Kentuckians each month. Customers have the option to wait in the spacious lobby or in their vehicle in the on-site parking lot. "This new Bardstown office represents the next step in making licensing more convenient, efficient, and customer-focused," said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray. "With improved technology, more staff, and a permanent home in the heart of Nelson County, we're delivering the kind of service Kentuckians expect and deserve." The office's business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Eastern time. While walk-in customers are welcome, appointments are encouraged and can be made online for any regional office at drive.ky.gov. Currently, there is no driver testing available at this location. All written and road testing is conducted by Kentucky State Police (KSP), and applicants must schedule an appointment online at assigned locations by visiting kentuckystatepolice.org/driver-testing. To improve customer service, regional offices statewide have added more than 125 contracted staff, implemented new technology that allows appointment holders to check in via text and know their place in line. A new skip the line quiz tool at Drive.ky.gov also can help customers find out if they qualify to skip the line and choose the license renewal process that fits their needs. There are also Saturday hours once a month and popup licensing events in counties without an office. First-time REAL ID applicants must visit a KYTC regional office in person, with proof of identity, residence and Social Security.
