Aviation Day in Frankfort to launch interest in KY youth From Naitore Djigbenou/Jermaine Bibb Frankfort, KY - Capital City Airport is proud to announce the return of its Aviation Day celebration on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 88 Airport Road, Frankfort, KY. This free, family-friendly event, held every other year, promises a full day of excitement, inspiration, and community connection all with a mission to ignite a passion for aviation in Kentucky's youth. Aviation Day, organized by event sponsor DreamFlight Charities in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Aviation (KDA), will feature a thrilling air show, and classic and custom cars all in addition to dozens of static aircraft displays representing Kentucky's aviation industry. Attendees will also enjoy interactive exhibits and booths from local agencies, aviation businesses and organizations, and community organizations offering hands-on activities and educational resources for all ages. A preliminary event schedule and list of activities is available at www.aviationdayky.com. "This event is more than just an air show, it's a runway for launching interest in the exciting world of aviation and all the opportunities it provides to Kentuckians," says Drew Underwood, manager of Capital City Airport. "I love seeing people of all ages and walks of life enjoying our showcase of the best of Kentucky aviation each time we host this celebration." While there is no cost to attend, any donations and sponsorships beyond event expenses will directly benefit aviation education initiatives in Franklin County and surrounding communities. These initiatives include discovery flights, training scholarships, aviation camps, and the formation of a student-oriented flight club to launch in August of this year. Sponsorship and partnership information is available on the event website. Capital City Airport is a general aviation airport managed by KDA serving Kentucky's capital and surrounding region as a hub for economic development, emergency response, and education, playing a vital role in connecting communities and cultivating opportunities in aviation. DreamFlight Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to removing barriers and sparking interest in aviation among youth across Kentucky through a variety of programming and STEM-based support.
