LETTER: Adair Co. SADD wants you to mark April 5, 2006 on calendar

Students invite everyone to participate in Kick Butts Day
Dear Editor,

On April 5, 2006, the Adair County High School SADD/Champions club would like to encourage youth all across America to take a stand against tobacco use. April 5th is Kick Butts Day. KBD is a great opportunity to kick the habit, talk to your children about not smoking, and simply say no to tobacco. For a healthy environment, participate in the annual KBD!

A few ways for everyone to contribute to this event are as follows: Parents, you should maintain a smoke-free home and discuss the issue of cigarettes with your children. Let them know you disapprove of smoking and also inform them of the harmful side effects such as cancer, heart disease, stroke and premature death. Teens, you should listen to advice from parents and say no the pressure to use tobacco. Smokers, you should stop smoking!.. Your health is immediately improved and risk of disease reduced.

Most important thing about KBD is learning about a bad habit

The most important aspect of KBD is gaining knowledge about their bad habit. The most important fact for everyone to remember is avoid tobacco altogether.. Second hand smoke counts too. Cancer and other deadly diseases can develop from it. Teens can become addicted within a few weeks or days of experimenting with smoking. Do not think that health will not be damaged immediately-it will!. Ongoing coughs, respiratory problems, weakened immune systems, and poor physical performance are what smokers face everyday.

Now you know some facts on smoking and ways to participate, so please observe Kick Butts Day, Adair County. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain-your health! Give it a try, Stop Smoking, Say No! You will be glad you did. Mark your calendar for April 5, 2006 as Kick Butts Day!

Thank you,
Adair County High School SADD/Champions Club
