On March 9and 10, ten local students participated in the 4-H Capitol Experience program. On March 9 and 10 the students had the chance to meet Senator McGaha and Representative Mobley and served as pages in the House and Senate.

The youth who participated in the Capitol Experience were members of the Teen and Youth Leadership Programs.

The high school students involved in the new leadership program are: Rawan Shahin, Lydia Tiller, Katie Royse, Alesha Compton, Brittany Brockman. The middle school students involved in the trip were: Cassie Rogers, Julie Wilson, Dariann Smith, Baylee Johnson, Ashley Sullivan, Shawntae Burton, Ryan Montgomery, Will Rich, Payton Barnes, Sarah Thompson, and Katlyn Wallace. Adults helping the with Frankfort trip and the leadership program are Alma Rich and Gary Curry.

More than 1,500 strong, their excitement echoing through the marble halls of the Capitol, 4-H members, volunteers, and Extension personnel recently converged on the Kentucky General Assembly. "4-H: A Capitol Experience" is a program designed to raise awareness of the legislative process. The annual event, which has doubled in size every year since its inception in 2004, brings together 4-H'ers and legislators, many of whom are former 4-H members themselves.

Our group would like to send a Thank You to Senator McGaha and Representative Mobley and their staffs for working with our group and helping to organize our event. The participants appreciated the time that Senator McGaha and Representative Mobley spent with each group that served as pages and help to make the event a true learning experience.
