Jerry Pierce, 74, Casey County, KY

Jerry Pierce, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at age 74. Born on January 16, 1951, in Danville, KY, he was a son of the late Charles E. Pierce and Opal Taylor Thompson.

Jerry retired as an assistant principal at Casey County High School, where he also served as the Athletic Director for several years. He was the principal at Garrett & Phelps Elementary Schools and taught at Douglas Elementary. Jerry loved teaching children and would help them in any way that he could. He coached basketball, baseball, softball and T-ball for many years.


Jerry loved classic cars and enjoyed going fishing. He loved being around horses and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed going to sporting events with his kids and grandkids and was an avid UK fan. Jerry cut his own wood to build his cabin with. He was a long-time farmer and was very resourceful, a jack of all trades. Jerry went camping for many years and loved being outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Cravens Pierce, whom he married on May 21, 1971; a son, Shawn (Lori) Pierce of Liberty; a daughter, Rachel (Chad) Taylor of Liberty; three grandchildren, Natalie Pierce, Landon Pierce, and Coleton Taylor; and a brother, David (Barbara) Pierce of Hustonville.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Brayden Pierce Taylor; a brother, Steven Dwain Pierce; and his sisters, Delinda Johnson and Judy Huegel.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Coleton Taylor, Landon Pierce, Chris Pierce, Michael Pierce, Kevin Kinnaird and Byron Cravens. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Durham, David Pierce, Chad Taylor and Shawn Pierce.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Brayden Taylor Scholarship Fund, 1815 Bowman Trail, Liberty, KY 42539.
