Betty Long Hogan, 81, Cumberland County, KY Betty Long Hogan, age 81, of the Peytonsburg community in Cumberland County, KY passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Betty was a resident at Dominion Senior Living in Frankfort, Kentucky for the past few years. She was born in Cumberland County, KY on May 31, 1943 to the late Albert "Stanley" and Gladys "Sylvia" Davidson Long. Betty was devoted to God, her family, and her community. She was a decades-long faithful member of Rock Springs Church of Christ, located just across the state line in Clay County, Tennessee. Her survivors include her son, Doug (Lana) Hogan, of Frankfort, and beloved grandchildren, Jacob Douglas Hogan, and Lauren Sydney Hogan, both of Frankfort. From diapers to diplomas, babysitting for lake excursions, trips to the beach, Chicago, the Smoky Mountains and anywhere else, from toy trains to 16th birthday cars, "Ma" made sure to be there. She also shared her love of making biscuits and seasonal Christmas candies with her grandkids. The memories made in the kitchen with "Ma", Lauren, and Jacob became cherished traditions. Betty Hogan worked in Burkesville as the Deputy County Court Clerk for more than 15 years. She ran for the office of Cumberland County Court Clerk in 1985. After winning her first term, Betty served as county clerk until her retirement in 2002. She treated everyone fairly and with respect. She continued to serve, even in retirement, working part-time in the Cumberland County Circuit's Court Clerk's office and then later at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home where she would help console people during the loss of a loved one. Service and being there for the people of Cumberland County was one of her greatest honors. One of Betty's greatest loves was her husband Arnie. They were married almost 50 years before God called him home in 2010. The couple moved to Germany shortly after getting married. Arnie was stationed there during his time in the U.S. Army in the early 1960's. After military service, they lived and worked in Indianapolis, Indiana for a few years before returning to their Cumberland County roots. Betty and Arnie lived in the same house on Red Banks Road in Peytonsburg for four decades. In addition to her husband and parents Betty was preceded in death by her brother and sister in-law James and Willie Mae Long, sisters and brothers-in-law Hazel and Harold "Squack" Jones, and Helen and Charles Steele. Brothers-in-law Eddie Hogan, Chester Hogan, and sister in-law Lucille Kingrey, along with sister in-law Anna Willis and her husband Junior Willis. Surviving sisters-in-law are Patsy Hogan and Patty Hogan, along with brother in-law Daryl Kingrey. Several nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive. Visitation for Betty Long Hogan will be Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home on Saturday from 10am until the funeral at 2pmCT. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery in Clay County Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for personalized donations in honor of Betty Hogan to the Alzheimer's Association. This story was posted on 2025-04-08 22:08:35
