Emergency updates, contact numbers and tips for safety Weekend showers and thunderstorms continue through the weekend causing a need for continued safety measures. Mayor Pam Hoots, along with 911 Director Derrick Murphy and Columbia Police Chief Evan Button, provided video status updates on the flood emergency, emphasizing the importance of safety and informing residents about road closures and emergency procedures. The primary focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents during any emergency. Contact Information and safety tips follow for emergencies and non emergencies. 911: Primary number for emergencies. Non-Emergency Number: 270-384-6464, and City Hall: 270-384-2501. Chief Evan Burton provided the following safety tips: Never drive through water: If water is standing on the road, turn around and find an alternative route. You don't know what's under the water - a bridge could be washed out. Use Headlights: turn them on during heavy rain. Report Water Pooling: Call 911 to report water pooling on roads. Slow down, wear seat belts, and remain vigilant while driving. Gratitude was expressed by all three to all emergency responders for their tremendous efforts.
