CPD: Traffic stop leads to drug arrest By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Jamestown Street before 11pmCT on Wednesday night, March 5, 2025. After making contact with the operator, it was found party had an active warrant. While being placed into custody, male attempted to place a pill bottle from his person and discard it in vehicle floorboard. After search, subject was additionally charged with possessing of suspected narcotics. James Smith, 42, of Columbia, was charged with controlled substance not in original container, and two counts possession of a controlled substance 1st degree in addition to being placed under arrest for active warrants.
