Nominate your favorite first responder this spring

The City of Columbia in partnership with TJ Health Columbia will be implementing a first responder recognition program with the first presentation scheduled for spring.

Both organizations with assistance and input from the Columbia Police Department, the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Adair County Ambulance Service, the 911 Dispatch Center, Columbia-Adair County Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, and Emergency Management will be setting up the parameters for the recognition process. It will include how you nominate someone for an award, and the different categories to be recognized.

"We want to recognize those on the front lines of service that help our community every day, whether on duty or off," said Mayor Pam Hoots.

"TJ Health is committed to recognizing the service of our first responder organizations," said Brandon Dickey, Chief of Hospital Operations at TJ Health Columbia. "This program is being implemented to ensure that we do just that for these selfless individuals."

Currently they are looking at categories of extraordinary work on and off duty, retired first responders, who have given of themselves to the community, lay persons who have gone above and beyond, and different agencies.

The groups are meeting to determine the process and set up the nomination process. An award ceremony will hopefully be set by spring.
