A good day for our country

By Linda Waggener

Former President Jimmy Carter gave us a gift today at his funeral service. He brought all of America's living Presidents into a group, showing peace and civility to one another, honoring our United States traditions - together.

I was proud of President Joe Biden who gave remarks from our highest office and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, seated beside him. I was proud of Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug.

I was proud of former President Bill Clinton with First Lady and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, of former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura, former President Barack Obama, and of President elect Donald Trump and First Lady Melania.

I was proud of those whose actions and points of view I agree with, and those whose actions and points of view I do not agree with - all of them sitting side by side allowing former President Jimmy Carter's legacy and his family to be the focus in the traditional ceremony for the country we all love.

They didn't know it but I gave a nod of thanks to them all, especially to former President Carter.
