Susan Howard Montgomery, 73, Green County, KY

Susan Howard Montgomery was born August 17, 1951. And departed this life on December 31, 2024. She was 73 years old. A former Sunday School teacher, she was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church.

A gifted student and writer, Susan was a graduate of Greensburg High School, Class of 1969, Western Kentucky University and Murray State University with additional post graduate work from University of Virginia. Her career in Vocational Rehabilitation for the Commonwealth of Kentucky spanned three decades. In acknowledgement of her impact on the field, she became the first recipient of the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation's Lifetime Achievement Award. Susan was also a lifetime member of the National Rehabilitation Association and Kentucky Rehabilitation Association.

Susan's passion for history, reading and writing were evidenced in her support of her beloved Greensburg and Green County. She was a member of the Green County Historical Society, Mensa and most recently assisted in the Montgomery Mill Project as well as the ongoing renovation of the Old Courthouse. Her original short stories and poems have been published in Kentucky Monthly and Mensa Magazine. She was a devotee of all things Lincoln and surrounded herself with Lincoln lore and books.


She was the daughter of Evelyn Reeves and Milton Howard Montgomery and sister to Robert Milton Montgomery, all who preceded her in death. Susan was also preceded in death by treasured family friends, Nola and Bruce Clark.

Survivors include sisters Nan Montgomery, Greensburg, KY, Carol Montgomery Williams and brother-in-law Robert "Flash" Williams of Georgetown, KY.

She is additionally survived by nieces and nephews Holly Matney Hendricks of Frankfort, KY, Lindsay Williams Greenwell and Steve Greenwell of Richmond, KY and nephew Matt Matney and Chasidy Matney of Greensburg, KY.

Survivors also include great nephews and nieces Hunter and Rachael Matney and children Bowen and Katie Mae, Kat Hendricks, Robert Brockman Greenwell, Liberty Brockman and Rae Matney.

During recent health concerns, Susan was loved and supported by special caregivers who became devoted friends and companions. Other survivors include a host of treasured friends and co-workers across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

A Celebration of Life Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg, KY with service beginning at noon with Dr. Todd Young officiating. Burial in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Green County Historical Society's Old Courthouse Restoration Fund at PO Box 276, Greensburg, KY 42743 or at the funeral home.
