CPD: Juvenile charged in vape store burglary

By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO
Columbia Police Department

The Columbia Police Department began an investigation on the morning of December 16, 2024, after receiving a call that the door to Columbia Tobacco and Vape Shop, located on Dohoney Trace, had been shattered. Nearly $4,000 in inventory was stolen from the business.

Property was recovered after investigation, and a male juvenile has been charged with Burglary 3rd degree; a class D felony within Adair's Court Designated Worker Office for juvenile offenses.

Assistant Chief Drew Conn was the investigating Officer. He was assisted by The Adair Sheriff's Office and other Officers within The Columbia Police Department.

The Columbia Police Department would like to encourage parents and families to educate themselves and research the growing trend of vaping and use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices. These devices are steadily gaining in popularity with juveniles for sometime and have gone largely unregulated.

Many products and accessories are designed for vaping concealment and target a younger consumer. This can vary from vapes designed to look like pens, phones, flash-drives, to clothing and backpacks made to hide vaping products.

Beginning on January 1, 2025, in Kentucky, House Bill 11 now limits the sale and circulation of vape products. The bill has made it illegal to sell products that do not have marketing authorization by The United States Food and Drug Administration.
