Letter: A healthy hot chocolate drink Responding to: Epicurean Kentuckian: looking for best recipe By Gene Burton Instead of coffee I start each day with this drink. In a glass I put a dash of ground cinnamon, a heaping tablespoon of cacao powder and heaping tablespoon of honey. Then I run 10 oz of water through my Kureg to heat it. I stir in the hot water slowly bringing all the ingredients together. So if you want to know why my recipe is special the simple answer would be because it tastes great, however the correct answer is it is going to take some bandwidth to explain why... First, Cacao powder is healthier than cocoa powder. I honestly did not know the difference between cacao and cocoa until I saw this drink on YouTube. Anyways cacao is full of antioxidants, helps with inflammation, boosts your immune system and has other positive health benefits. Cinnamon also has similar health benefits but I primarily use it as a flavor enhancer. Honey has several of the same health benefits as cacao and cinnamon but it's also great for allergies. A little honey FYI...My honey source is from Donna Jones at Big Black Dog Farm right here in Columbia. If the bees that collect the pollen get it from a source that you are allergic to then a tablespoon of honey daily is like taking an allergy shot but through mother nature instead of a shot with a needle. Store-bought honey is a good sweetener but if you want it to help with allergies there's nothing better than local honey. My honey is so local that the person who owns the hives lives close enough that their bees frequent my property, hence how I get the best allergy shot mother nature can provide. So for a healthy chocolate drink try the above mixture. This story was posted on 2024-12-26 12:54:57
