Basketball: Indians fall to Newport 56-60 By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Saturday, December 21, 2024, in the third round of the Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass tournament, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team fell to the Newport Wildcats 56-50. Adair fell behind early, but stayed right on the Wildcats' heels, trailing by only 3 at the half, and holding within 5 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw Adair come back and take their first lead of the second half, with just under two minutes to go, after Blane Bardin hit two massive back-to-back threes. Unfortunately, the Wildcats would fight back and win late. The night for the Indians as a whole was marked by shooting struggles, with the team going just 40% from the floor and 18% from the three point mark. The leading scorer for Adair County was Connor Loy, with 24. Loy shot 11/16 from the floor. Isaiah Cochran was the team's leading rebounder, with 9, followed by Brayton Coomer with 4. This was another category the team struggled with, notching just 19 total rebounds to Newport's 32. Despite the loss, the team will still finish King of the Bluegrass ahead of some very talented teams, like Ashland Blazer, Butler County, and Trinity High School. Adair County will return to action after Christmas in the Mason County Invitational Tournament. They will face host Mason County at 6:30pmCT on Friday, December 27, 2024, followed by a game against Campbell County at 10:30amCT on Saturday, December 28, 2024. The MCIT will be held in the Mason County Fieldhouse, 1320 U.S. Hwy 68, Maysville, KY. This story was posted on 2024-12-22 18:34:08
