Regarding town creek and Roger Smith's reference to a blacksmith shop: Yes, William "Buck" Parsons, William Parsons' father, had a blacksmith shop right in the area shown in the picture.

My cousin, "Dokie" (our nickname for W.R. Parsons, Jr.) and I, spent a lot of time at the shop when growing up. The town branch didn't run through the shop, but was nearby.
