ACHS teacher spotlight: Ms. Julie Brockman

By Jade Waggener
ACHS senior reporter for Columbia Magazine

My name is Julie Brockman, and I've been a teacher for 19 years. The majority of those years have been at Adair County High School teaching World History and AP Psychology.

Julie writes, "I am a graduate of Adair County High, Class of 1994. In 1995 I married Jonathan Brockman and we have three sons, Jacob, Justin, and Jarett. We also have a beautiful daughter-in-law and are excited to say that we are expecting our first grandchild in December.

"My husband is a business owner and farmer. I am blessed to say that he has been my biggest supporter as I furthered my education from my bachelor's degree to my Rank I. I have attended Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville University.

"I believe that both of these schools provided me with a solid foundation for the teaching profession.

"I love being a teacher because every day is an opportunity to make a positive impact. Whether it's sparking a student's curiosity or helping them overcome challenges, the reward of seeing their progress is unlike anything else. Watching students develop confidence and a love for learning reminds me why I chose this path. The relationships I build with them are lifelong, and knowing I've contributed to their future is incredibly fulfilling.

"I wish the community had the opportunity to see how outstanding the students at Adair County High School are. They give me hope at a time when our world feels a little chaotic.

"The most important thing about my job is building positive relationships. It's not just about the academic material, it's about helping each student realize their potential, both personally and academically. Creating a space where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and grow is essential. I realized early in my career that there will be students who desperately need a positive adult role model in their lives.

"Someone to ask how their day is or just listen when they talk. I have always said that 20 years from now they may not remember what I taught them, but they will always remember how I treated them.

"I love what I do and there is never a dull moment if you work in the school system."
