Housing crisis explained at Chamber meeting Land development was the topic for Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce members at the October lunch meeting Tuesday at the Welcome and Development Center. There is a housing crisis in the state, including in our own rural area. Recommendations were made to talk with legislators and get involved in the new committee charged with creating a solution. The state is rapidly growing in jobs and affordable housing needs to quickly expand to serve workers. An example was given of Glendale where the huge new Ford plant, Blue Oval, is being developed - new job recruits are sleeping in their cars in some cases because they can't find a place to live. Adair County real estate company owners Amy Walker and Tammy Stotts, members of the South Central Kentucky Association of Realtors, were responsible for bringing land and housing updates from the industry. Walker Realty sponsored the lunch. Guest speakers were Pam Featherstone, President of the Kentucky Realtors Association; and Jeff Hinkley and Linda Flickinger with the South Central Kentucky Association of Realtors. The information was helpful in understanding what is needed in the housing industry and what local folks can do to help themselves and property development in Adair County. Chamber Vice President Rev. Bobby Bowe, gave the invocation and announcements and introductions were given by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director. This story was posted on 2024-10-10 08:12:39
