Myrtle Russell, 93, Casey County, KY (1931-2024) Myrtle Godbey Russell, of Casey County, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at age 93. Mrs. Myrtle was a member and former Sunday School teacher at the Valley Oak Baptist Church. She formerly worked at the Liberty Sportswear, Somerset Country Club, the Green Thumb Program, and the Gathering Place. Mrs. Myrtle also participated in the Valley Oak Quilts of Valor. She also enjoyed farming and liked to be known as a "farm-her". She was most recently known for her Myrtle's Mall Shop at the crossroads in Casey County. Born May 1, 1931, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Oral and Elsie Ashley Watson. Survivors include her daughter, Rita (and Steve) Sweeney of Georgetown; sons, Michael (and Ellen) Godbey of Liberty, Stephen (and Anita) Godbey of Middleburg, Chris (and Jennifer) Godbey of Liberty, and Butch (and Betsy) Godbey of Liberty; brothers, Alfred Thomas (and Ina) Watson of Ohio and Vernie Watson of Liberty; sister, Susan (and Marvin) Godbey of Liberty; 13 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Frank Godbey and Truman Russell; brothers, Mack, Edgar, and Elmer Watson; and sisters, Matrie Billings, Marie Newton, Freda Singleton, and Maye Tridle. Funeral services will be at 1pmET on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Valley Oak Baptist Church with Bro. Kevin Pittman and Stephen Godbey officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 1 Monday at the Valley Oak Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Andrew Godbey, Phillip Godbey, Russ Martin, Jason Fox, Bob Johnson, and Reed Kress.
