Adair Co. Emergency Management resignations

Mike Keltner, along with deputies Tracy McCarol and Joseph Chad Wheet, have announced their resignations effective October 4, 2024.

Keltner said in an email to local media that "I want to extend my appreciation to Judge Bryant, former Judge Cowan , former Judge Stephens and all of the magistrates I have worked with in the past for always supporting Adair County Emergency Management."

Mike says that he is "working with Judge Bryant and KYEM to find a qualified candidate that will continue our commitment to our community. Search and Rescue Coordinator Brandon Harvey will remain in place and continue SAR coordination."

Keltner's resignation letter reads:

Adair County Judge Executive Larry Russell Bryant,

I truly appreciate your renewal of my appointment at the beginning of your term and your support in allowing me to serve Adair County and assisting surrounding counties in their times of need as Emergency Management Director. I am proud that Adair County stands more prepared than we have been before. It has filled my heart knowing that over the past nine and a half years I was able to participate in growing the agency as Director.

I must inform you that I will be resigning my positions as Adair County Emergency Management Director, Adair County Search and Rescue Coordinator, Adair County Floodplain Manager and Adair County Local Emergency Planning Committee Chairperson with an end date of October 4th, 2024. This decision has come with many emotions, but I know I am leaving behind a well-developed agency and existing agency partnerships will hold our county in great hands while onboarding a new emergency manager.

Thank You again for allowing me to serve the people I love most.

Mike Keltner, 9/19/2024

In a post on FaceBook, Mike shared the following about his resignation:
I have made the difficult decision to resign from Emergency Management, my deputies, Chad Wheet and Tracy McCarol who I personally asked to assist me have resigned also.

I know we have developed a great agency and I expect it to continue without us. I am working with Judge Bryant and KYEM to find a qualified candidate that will continue our commitment to our community. Search and Rescue Coordinator Brandon Harvey will remain in place and continue SAR coordination.

I want to extend my appreciation to Judge Bryant, former Judge Cowan, former Judge Stephens and all of the magistrates I have worked with for always supporting Adair County Emergency Management. I feel that I have been one of the most supported emergency managers in our area.

I must also thank the public, partner agencies, other emergency management agencies, and the many friends I have made while serving as your emergency management director.

Let us all continue improving and moving forward in our lives, stay safe.
