Letter: Quick response by city police on accident

Vicky Pike writes: What if there were no police to respond?

Saturday afternoon there was a pretty bad accident near the entrance of Walmart on Burkesville Road. I heard tires squealing. As I looked up two vehicles hit and were spinning under the stoplight. I grabbed my phone and dialed 911. After a few rings someone answers with, "what's your emergency?" I said, "two vehicles have hit at high speed in front of Walmart." They asked was anyone hurt but I had to tell them I'm not sure, I'm in my front yard.

Immediately people began jumping from their vehicles and running toward the cars. One door was pretty well smashed in but several got hold and were able to pry the door open to check on the driver. Now this is why Im writing about this -- What if there were hadn't been police to respond?

In that moment, I realized how dangerously close we came to being at that point before Mayor Hoots and Chief Burton stepped up to assist our county. We can never get to that point.

That was a wake up call to me when I dialed 911. I wondered what IF there wasn't any officers to respond. No matter how you feel about our current MESS I was willing at that point to cough up another few dollars to insure those officers are always there in one of the darkest moments in our lives.

The behavior of our court members has got to change.

You are grown men.

Act like it.

If you can't its time you step down and let someone else give it a try. We are the laughing stock of the state of Kentucky. There are a few who are trying so I won't say its everyone of them. You know who you are.

Get back in there and fix this problem. If you cant act like a grown up then please don't show up at the next meeting.

I beg each of you to participate in solving this problem.

Don't allow one magistrate to speak for the other 6.

You have a voice too. I certainly hope I don't get another phone call from a certain magistrate displeased I wrote this article.

Citizens do have a right to speak out about our public officials when we think they are wrong and I will continue to speak out until our beloved officers and other county employees are paid a fair living wage.

Thank you for all the positive comments I received for speaking up.

It just came out after sitting there next to Sheriff Brockman as he choked back tears trying to tell his story while being disrespected by many up front.

Thank you for your time reading my concerns and go out and DEMAND CHANGE for our county employees. - Vicky Pike
