Jim Ellison, 76, Casey County, KY (1947-2024) James "Jim" Ellison, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Liberty. He was 76. He earned a master's degree in education, and went on to retire as a teacher for the Casey County Board of Education. During his time at Casey County High School, he also served as Athletic Director. For the last few years, Jim worked at RJ's Equipment Lot. In his early years, he owned a mobile home business and sold insurance. Jim was always active, whether it was camping, boating, golfing, reading, or just "piddling", he stayed busy. When he was young, Jim attended Trace Fork Baptist Church and later in life, he attended Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. Born October 25, 1947, in Casey County, KY, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Maurine Hatter Ellison. Survivors include his dear wife, Karen Wright Ellison, whom he wed on February 25, 1983; daughter, Melissa (and Brad) Vaughn of Liberty; sons, Adam (and Katie) Ellison of Bowling Green and Jordan (and Coco) Ellison of Lexington; sister, Brenda Buis of Cincinnati, OH; 4 grandchildren, Stone, Major, Sophia, and Dominic; and one grandson on the way, Dawson. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Byrd Rucker. Funeral services will be at 11amET Friday, August 2, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Rodney Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Caney Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 Thursday and after 8 Friday. Pallbearers will be Adam Ellison, Jordan Ellison, Stone Vaughn, Major Vaughn, Brad Vaughn, Keith Wright, Spencer Wright, Skyler Wright, and Dominic Frassinelli. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Weddle and Roger Carmicle. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Caney Fork Cemetery Fund, c/o Greg Hogue, 63 Bee Lee Spur Road, Liberty, KY 42539.
