Downtown Days Committee volunteers honored

By Ellen Zornes

The 2024 Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year is the Downtown Days Committee. Our Volunteer of the Year has accomplished so much that just a single person couldn't do it all - it takes a whole committee - the Downtown Days Committee.

This group of hard-working ladies came about because several years ago some people were looking at some old photos of the Green Pepper Festival. So you know this group are no spring chickens if they remember that Festival. But they decided Columbia and Adair County needed to have a festival that would bring attention to our downtown area. And thus, in 2003 the Downtown Days Committee was born. They didn't even have a place to hold their meetings so they met in a member's house.

It started out as a nice Fall Festival with just a few vendor booths, a pageant, some local kids showcasing some things, local musicians playing some songs on a homemade, but very cool, stage and the Festival ended with a full blown free concert of a famous singer on Saturday night.

Well, we loved it and it has become quite the production with vendors all over the downtown area - all kinds of performances all day and night - contests, car show, food trucks and vendors and people everywhere and from all areas of Kentucky and even surrounding states come to Columbia's Downtown Days Festival.

So, Jada Atwood, Gina Baker, Lindsey Breeding, Tiffany Collins, Annette Hatcher and Chasity Yarberry - it is my pleasure to present you with the 2024 Chamber of Commerce Volunteer Award.
