Phillip Wood Coffey - Fly on the Wall

By Phillip Wood Coffey

Distracted by a fly on the living room wall
Wondering what he has seen and heard.
Oh,The stories he could tell through the neighborhood.
Would it all be true from his perspective
Mixed with the emotions of the moment
Flying from one Dung to another in his journey
Of taking in all the smells and political humdrum.

Would he be polite in all of his exchanges
Among his countless friends of his species
Or would he be raving, complaining and cursing
About all that he has seen and heard without
Listening to the many opposing views
In the commonality and opposing theatrics in the expressing.

He will soon pass on, leaving only an undetectable scratch from his landing
And always be lifting in a backward direction, as many of us sadly do.
