Freda Catharine Edwards, 93, Columbia, KY (1930-2024)

Freda Catharine Fiille Edwards of Columbia passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Gary Chesser, Chaplain Yves Baptiste, and Bro. Roger Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, KY.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Wednesday morning until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


She was born in Batavia, OH on November 28, 1930, to the late Henry and Velma Bell Duchmein Fiille. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Tommy Edwards.

Mrs. Edwards was a child of God and a member of the Jerusalem Prayer Team, a strong supporter of Israel and the Times Square Church in New York. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and loved taking care of her animals and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include seven children Ernie Edwards of Louisville, KY, Bill Edwards (Betty) of Greensburg, KY, Robert Edwards (Phyllis) of Enterprise, AL, Tom Edwards (Debbie) of Harrodsburg, KY, Jean Kingsbury (Alan) of Campbellsville, KY, John Edwards (Ellen) of Columbia, KY, and Peggy Helm (Kelin) of Columbia, KY; a son-in-law Wayne Tompkins of Texas; ten grandchildren Tommy Edwards, Jenny Kawa (the late Brian Kawa), Shannon Morrell (Adam), Jason Edwards (Cassy), Ashley Edwards, Brittany Edwards, Amanda Edwards (Michael Turpin), Kayla Helm, Seth Edwards, and Cassy Curry (Nick) and several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two nieces Debbie Werner and Shirley Brown; a special friend Pam Fudge of Columbia, KY.

A special thank you to the Hosparus staff Laura Williams, Kelly Lane, Robin Garmon, Stacy Handy Matney, Chaplain Yves Baptiste, Dr. Baeda Grimsley, Gail Dowell and Megan Curry and Ann Cole for spending time with her during her illness.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Lois Tompkins, a brother Homer Fiille and his wife Imogene, Daughter-in-Law Laquita Edwards and a special friend Pauline Patton.

Pallbearers will be Kayla Helm, Dee Dee Sliter, Alan Kingsbury, Kelin Helm, Tommy Edwards, Ashley Edwards, Jenny Kawa, Brittany Edwards, Shannon Morrell and Amanda Edwards.
