Maurice Leon Shearer, 89, Columbia, KY (1935-2024) Maurice Leon Shearer of Columbia passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. He was 89 years old. Funeral services will be held at 3pmCT on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY. Burial will follow in the Columbia Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be on Thursday after 10amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. He was born in the Cundiff Community of Adair County on April 18, 1935, to the late Ernest Harrison and Gertrude Watson Shearer. Mr. Shearer was of the Christian faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan and enjoyed vegetable gardening and spending time with his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews. He is survived by a niece Sheila Collins (Darrell) of Shepherdsville, KY; a nephew David Compton (Elisha) of Sellersburg, IN; a great niece and nephew Amanda Collins Milby (Dustin) and Ryan Collins (Emily) both of Shepherdsville, KY; five great great nieces and nephews Hattie, Harper, and Millie Compton, and Molly and Callie Milby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Treva Compton and her husband Harold Compton. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
