ACPC students get field day at Homeplace on Green River

Homeplace on Green River hosted 200+ Adair County Primary Center first graders for a hands-on educational field day Wednesday.

HGR is Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom. It is a working farm, is on the National Register of Historic Places and its historic buildings are preserved for use by generations to come.

Just like in the classroom, kids arrive on their buses and head to the first stations - four different ones in the morning, lunch, and four in the afternoon - all experiences in each session centered around learning.

Students rotated locations between morning and afternoon sessions from Homeplace to the information center and park at Green River Dam where they continue learning in nature play activities lakeside.

Homeplace on Green River has been in continuous use from its settlement by the Tate family in 1803 to present and has supported a variety of agricultural products both plant and animal.

Billy Joe Fudge reminds us, "Homeplace is a debt free, not for profit corporation. It is governed by an unpaid board of directors and receives no tax money to run and maintain the 220 acre farm. Its primary sources of income are festivals, rentals, farm leases and tax deductible donations and memberships from individuals, businesses and organizations such as Adair County Farm Bureau who sponsored this excited and bright group of future leaders. Check how you can become a part of the Homeplace mission for as little as $25 per year at, https://www.homeplacefarmky.org/membership.html."

Location: Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road (State Highway 55), Campbellsville, KY, is adjacent to the Tebbs Bend Civil War campground and battlefield and the Taylor County Nature Reserve.
