CPD: South charged with assault of jail employees By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police responed to Adair Regional Jail on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2024, just after 6amCT, for an altercation between an inmate and Deputy Jailers. Inmate Joseph South, 57, became aggressive with jail staff and refused to follow verbal commands before physically attacking multiple Deputy Jailers. South has been charged with three counts of assault 3rd degree correctional employee. He was being held at Adair Regional in relation to a fatal shooting which previously occurred March 23, within the county. Officer Trevor Foster was the responding Officer.
