ACSO: Suspect in custody after Adair Co. man shot From Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office On Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 7:32amCT, Adair County 911 received a call of a possible shooting around the 1000 block of old Montpelier Road. Sheriff Brockman, Sheriff's Deputies and Officers with the Columbia Police Department arrived on scene to find a man with a rifle beside an outbuilding. The armed suspect was directly across the road from the reported shooting. The victim remained inside the home in need of medical assistance. EMS was unable to come on scene due to the suspect with rifle across street. Sheriff Brockman and Deputy Chandler Staten drove past the suspect and pulled to the back of the house, while Deputy Tweedy and Columbia Officer Trevor Foster provided cover. They went inside the residence, picked up the gunshot victim, and packed him to the Sheriff's police cruiser. He was placed on the back seat and driven approximately a mile down the road to a waiting EMS unit. Upon returning back to scene, officers with the Sheriffs Office, Columbia Police and Kentucky State Police began to approach the suspect. He refused to surrender and comply with verbal commands, and was brought down with a taser by the Sheriffs Office and taken into custody. The victim was later pronounced deceased at TJ Samson Hospital. The suspect and investigation have been turned over to the Kentucky State Police by the Adair County Sheriff's Office. KSP are expected to release names along with additional information at a later time. This story was posted on 2024-03-23 11:44:21
